SUMMARY:

Reported by entertainment media on Thursday, the perfection of an idyllic planet populated by perfect blue aliens from the hugely successful movie Avatar, is causing ordinary people to become depressed. It is said that the detailed visual realism could be leading viewers to become particularly attached to the idea of the world.

MY PERSPECTIVE

As I see it, never could the director of Avatar, James Cameron, expect this situation to happen. The glamorous visual effects in Avatar bring people fascination, together with depression. In the movie, the ideal planet Pandora, created by advanced CG technology, fascinated countless audience with its unique imagination and marvelous visualization. Outside the cinema, there was no way to find another place as breathtaking as Planet Pandora. Frustrated by reality, Avatar fans began to lose faith in our living world. Being a fan of Avatar myself, I totally understand the people in depression, but I feel unnecessary to indulge oneself in a virtual world like this. “In the life certainly does not lack America, only is lacks discovers the beautiful eye.” Reality is not as splendid as Pandora, but we can enjoy our living here, as long as we are keen to discover the hidden gifts everywhere.

By the way, this might be a lesson for movie directors to learn. Sometimes, it is not always preferable to make films as fancy as possible—what would the audience feel if you show them every detail in a wonderful castle and then tell that it is only a mirage?

  1. yeah i agree with you.
even the planet pandora is so beautiful, the name Pandora still represents the disaster to the human. in the movie, there are no description about the earth that ordinary people live on. but i am sure that it is not good as we see from the movie. i think the director also wants to tell us about the pandora is that even it stands for disasters and pains, there are one thing that we still have-- hope. that is the meaning of pandora in my opionion.
with hope, we should love our planet as much as possible~lol~~^_^

  2. From Roy (Wei Lai):
I agree with you and Eric.
It is unnecessary to indulge oneself in a virtual world like this. The only thing we can do is to enjoy our lives and cherish everyday. Also we shall live with hope, and discover the beauty of this world.
Your article reminds me of another movie,2012. It did cause a panic after screening. What I want to say is that at the end of the world people still live with hope, so how can we loose faith in ourselves?
yes,as long as we live with hope, the world is beautiful.

  3. I am quite with you perspective that there is no need to indulge oneself into the movie. Movie is a form of art and obviously many scenes are just imaginary, so sometimes it does not make sense to make comparisons between the perfections of the world shown in the movie with the reality. However, at most times, movies are reflections of the real human world. One thing I learnt from in Avatar is the violent invasion that still exists and develops nowadays.

  5. First, I think Avatar is really a success. It describe the conflict between economic interest and environment protection. Although the Green Warriors win and get their motherland back in the movie, I think it is just a beautiful dream...In reality, common people can never beat those companies supported by government...
